Last blog, we covered self-acceptance as an action. I’ve heard from a lot of you on this and love all the feedback!!!!
Let’s take this further. When we really think about it and create space to be still, we get to know our thoughts. And, most of the time our voice between our ears is not nice! To foster our self acceptance we need kind and positive self talk which will guide us to take action towards self love.
Ways to Love Yourself Again
1. Practice meditation every day — even for 1-2 minutes. Try different types, silent, walking, guided to name a few.
2. With your thoughts ask Byron Katie’s 4 questions: 1) is this thought true, 2) how can I absolutely know that it is true, 3) how does this thought make me feel and react, 4) who would I be without this thought?
3. Spend time every day on your self-care, hobbies, friendships and spiritual interests. These will fill you up in ways that a “perfect 10” body never will. A great workout does wonders to for our morale and mental health — it gets our “happy juices” flowing!
4. While looking at yourself in the mirror, affirm your appreciation for all of your positive qualities, skills and traits. Be kind!
5. Take care of and dress yourself lovingly every single day. Choose clothing that fits well, in colors and styles that you like. I am a big believer in working with a stylist. When I do this — I actually save money and eliminate the stress and time of finding clothes that make me feel and look great.
6 Aim for a body size that is healthy for your height and shape. Speak to a doctor, health coach or dietician so that you have a realistic goal. Doing a metabolic test and knowing your BMI will help this effort.
7. Focus on creating a healthy body, and let your weight take care of itself. Try limiting the frequency that you step on the scale and instead nourish yourself with plant based foods and drinks. See how your feel once sticking to the optimal healthy lifestyle — I bet you feel a lot better!
By acknowledging the impact of body image on the rest of your life, you can refocus your lens and keep a healthy view of what you see.
