Here we are with my #6 blog on the mindset and how we transform it so we live our optimal healthy life.
After years of studying and working with clients on living the optimal healthy lifestyle, I’ve learned that mindset is the KEY to transforming our habits and lifestyle. Sure, we can know all the foods and drinks to consume, the exercises we need to stay fit and the importance of mindfulness. But, if we don’t have the right thoughts (and support) to back us up — all that we know goes out the window.
And, what exactly is the optimal healthy lifestyle and why is it so important? The optimal healthy lifestyle is backed by science and research from all the top experts in heart disease, cancer, Alzheimers, diabetes, just to name a few. Of course, we cannot guarantee that we don’t get any of these chronic illnesses, but we can reduce our risks and at the same time feel great while doing this. We also know that our modern lifestyle is increasing the risks and occurrence of these deadly diseases, throwing more challenges our way to stay healthy.
Now, back to the mindset! Today’s technique is called “Soften the Blow”.
We know that most of our thoughts (thousands per day) are negative. That is how we humans are wired dating back to caveman days and more recently from our own experiences. It’s up to you to bring awareness to your thoughts and when you catch yourself thinking an unhelpful thought ask;
Would I say this out loud to someone else?Would I say this to a child?Would I let someone speak that way to my child?
Sometimes just imagining someone else’s face if they heard what you’re thinking can make a difference. This may help you shift your language to something more loving.
Sticking up for yourself out loud will feel good, too. You can say to yourself, “Hey, I don’t like how you’re talking to me, brain. That’s enough out of you. I’m done.” Or, if you named your critical self like I did (mine’s Sciros which means destructive in Gaelic) – you can call out the critic by name. I might say something like, “Here we go again, darling (using a term of endearment softens to the blow even more!) Sciros – but not today.”
How are you going to soften the blow so your negative thoughts don’t take over?
Let me know how you are doing with your optimal healthy lifestyle and if you think mindset helps you incorporate the necessary — nourish, move, meditate, ways so that you feel great (and reduce your risks of chronic illnesses). Just hit reply. I always love to hear from you.
