Beautiful light cleans the air of toxins.
Have you ever tried — Himalayan salt lamps?
Once, I walked out the wrong door after an appointment and ended up on street around the corner from my car. And, there a few shops away I discovered a Himalayan salt lamp store. Looking back, I now know I really didn’t stumble — spirit led me there — as I really could use these healing lamps. Curiosity/spirit got the best of me and I entered the store.
Since I am interested in healthy means of living — and, because on this particular day my sinus’ pounded pain in me — the salt lamps and candle holders intrigued me. The lamps not only illuminate a beautiful orange or light yellow glow (something I miss when Chicago becomes gloomy), but when lit, the salt from the rock lamp emits an electrical charge, giving our environment health promoting negative ions. These ions help purify the air of dust, smoke, allergens, bacteria and more. Hence, we breathe clean air!
As the Solay Wellness brochure states: “These natural qualities make them an excellent beautiful light source, natural air purifier and can help people with various heath conditions including asthma, allergies, and other respiratory ailments.”
Solay explains that we feel more relaxed when we breathe in a fresh forest or cool salt breeze.
“There is proven science behind this, and a simple truth. Being connected to nature and the earth is crucial for health. In the forest dense trees create oxygen-rich environment that nourishes our entire body. And ocean breeze highly charged with healthy negative ions feeds our cells.” (Solay Wellness).
Like me — you might not be able to make it to the ocean or forest. Bringing the salt lamps into your home (or house plants for the forest effects) gives you this nature.
I bought a lamp and candle holder that day in the Solay store. I learned while at the warehouse store that Himalayan salt is more that 250 million years old and it contains all of the 84 elements found in our bodies. Himalayan salt gives us numerous benefits — including: promoting blood sugar health and helping to reduce the signs of aging, promoting sinus health, and supporting our libido (for more of the benefits, see “Himalayan Salt has health benefits” by Sherry Early in YOU Magazine, Summer 2011.).
I saw more products including salt detox kits, cooking salt spices, soaps, body sprays to name a few. Not only could I breathe this healthy salt but ingest it as well!
And, I bought more lamps — 1 each for my 2 kids bedrooms (my 10-year-old daughter recently asked for another night-light in her room: the salt lamp became a great solution!). I returned the lamp I bought at the other store for a slightly bigger lamp as I learned a 7-9 pound lamps is best for most bedrooms (I had bought the 4-5 pound lamp prior). I also bought a small computer salt lamp (it plugs into my lap top), some bath salts and the detox kit, which is a bottle of Himalayan salts that I fill with filtered water.
And, since the Solay rep gave me a free visit to the salt room, I altered by schedule of errands and stayed for a meditative 1 hour stay (relaxing and challenging for me to let go of the “to-dos” my mind kept telling me I left behind).
I lOVE these lamps. After sleeping with the lamp on low, I wake up breathing easier, more clear — and my sinus pain is gone.
If you want to buy Himalayan salt lamps and or other products, I recommend:
* Find out if there is a store or spa/dealer near by that sells them and is knowledgeable about them. Target and Wal-Mart sell them online but I wonder about the quality of their salt lamps.
* If you must by online — check out http://www.solaywellness.com or http://www.yoursaltlamps.com (I bought an aromatherapy lamp from yoursaltlamps.com b/c I liked their aromatherapy lamps better.
* Make sure you lamp comes with or purchase a dimmer electrical cord. You will want to dim the light to very low when you sleep — unless you like sleeping with a bright light on.
* EnJOY your lit up and clean air!
