Part 2: In Your Bones
Prior to my Foundations class when I went to Zero Balancing — here’s what I learned:
The masseuse’s statement “be with your bones, hear what they have to say,” fascinated me. There I lay on a table in a very quiet and peaceful room — feeling the gentle touch of the masseuse — listening to my body and feeling anything that came up. I must admit I felt skeptical. What could my bones tell me? How could I get my ego/mind to stop the swirling thoughts so that I could hear my body, my bones tell me something?
But, I gave it a try. And, so much came up! One of the recurring thoughts that kept popping in my head and bringing my body feelings of stress was about a pair of designer dress shoes I had recently purchased. The shoes “seemed” comfortable which I strive for since I know my alignment gets out of sorts easily. Yet, the shoes also seemed to be less supportive to my feet then I need. They also looked beautiful — and as part of a trunk show — they were one of a kind. If I returned them, that was it. No where on the planet could I get these shoes if I changed my mind once returned.
Now, I am fully aware that this a material endeavor and I’d be perfectly fine without these shoes. But, on a deeper level, shoes represent for me a challenge that stems from my childhood. After my mother died when I was 8, I never had anyone help me buy proper fitting — feeling good shoes. And, I want proper fitting, feeling good shoes that look fabulous too (no stilettos or high heels on my feet!).
So there I lay on the table and asked my bones — should I keep or return the shoes. And, without a second passing the message I got was: “RETURN THEM!” “Stop putting us (my bones) in bad shoes and pushing us too hard — let us rest when we need it, let us tell you when something is good to do and/or buy.” “Don’t waste money on another pair of bad shoes.”
That’s it. When the Zero Balancing massage finished, the shoes went back to the store!
Since this message came so loud and clear — I continued in the silence to listen to my bones. What else did they need to tell me? And, more came. This time — the messages were a bit more deep. My body — specifically my bones wanted me to share more (with myself and the world) about the positive, wacky, fun, extraordinary life that formed after and despite of my mother and then father’s deaths.
My bones knew my pain, grief and sadness story from being orphaned at age 19 — and when those feelings came up, they wanted me to rest, slow down, and have gentle thoughts permeated me. But, my bones also wanted me to tell/feel more of my story of how spirit, and the flow of life carries us on and doesn’t just help us survive tragic events but can and does get us to thrive in life — despite of and from awful circumstances.
So when thoughts came up about my loses — and mostly these thoughts now center around my kids: they don’t have grandparents and are missing such an important influence in their lives — my bones were telling me a lesson from this pain — without my parents, my kids can grow a strong relationship with spirit and know their grandparents this way. Also, they will need to foster other relationships — non family members as family — in essence, they get to pick their family. And, they have a mother and father who spend a lot of time with them and will always be a big part of their lives.
And, perhaps the biggest gift from all this loss is that they (my kids) will have to hone the best source of wisdom for themselves — which is their self wisdom — a great appreciation, love and sense of their self. Without parental, grandparents or other important figures in my life, I have gained direction/advice/knowledge —from knowing my self — body, mind, and soul. These loses opened up the opportunity to know and feel spirit and the greater Divine love – God. And, pursue more knowledge about myself through places like Zero Balancing!
You can bet I’ll be back at the Zero Balancing Wellness Center and any other places that help me to continue and foster this deep knowledge, love, and appreciation of my self — sole to soul!
